Welcome to the boards!! I must ask, what dental work are you getting done? (Sorry if I am bombarding your personal life too soon!).

Well you know about the drooling thing I didn't, the dentist never warned me and I looked like a complete donkey (in front of a load of school kids) when I tried to drink some water outside waiting for my lift.

Thank you all for a very warm welcome! I look forward to getting to know and hopefully seeing you all out in this big beautiful world of our's!

And in the spirit of getting to know, I will share the story behind my dental work.

But first Delaney, I will answer your question. I need 10-12 crowns and at least 2 root canals, and don't worry, as you might read, I'm the only one who bombard's my personal life, and I'm more than happy to share it with all who care to learn from others mistakes.

Warning: Long and a little gory.

May 16th 2006 I came up the stairs from a long poker game and as soon as I got outside on the pavement I must have passed out because next thing I knew my friend who was with me was tapping my back going "Are you all right?!" as I was a little dazed and lying face first in a puddle it took me a little bit to get up and say "Yeah, Yeah, I'm fine, just tired, I think I need to go to sleep". He tells me that I hit my head pretty hard and maybe I should get it checked out, I decline and head home (luckily 20 feet away, unluckily 3 floors up) but being a good friend he follows behind me up the stairs telling me to take it easy.

When start cleaning up in the bathroom, I realize I'm spitting out alot of blood, and more disturbingly, alot of tooth shards. That and the fact that my bottom teeth don't line up anymore make me realize that perhaps I should take his advice and seek some professional help.

To make a long story longer than it already is, I had broken my jaw in 3 places and shattered 12 of my teeth and the doctor's, despite a battery of tests, couldn't say what had caused the blackout in the first place (Yes, I was sober, unfortunately).

But as a warning to everyone, I have since been told by other doctors that it was probably a result of low blood pressure resulting from my long period of sitting down followed by a quick rise and run up some stairs.

Since Ontario doesn't cover any dental work that isn't done in the emergency room and while I was in emerg they were more worried about getting my jaw wired shut, I am left with 12-15 grand worth of dental work needing done.... enter Mexico from stage south to save the day or at least 4000 bucks, plus a trip to somewhere I have never been!

So moral of this story: If you feel light headed, SIT DOWN! And extra insurance is really a good idea!!

Wow, that's some intense tooth-work! Good luck and I hope it all goes well for you...but you got it right, might as well use it as an excuse to see someplace new!

Hey Aaron, I'm pretty new here myself, so feel a bit weird saying "welcome", but I'll say it anyway... Welcome! :D
The dental business sounds nasty - I get a bit faint sometimes standing up fast, but have never actually passed out
Hope it all goes well, and you can enjoy your trip after you've had the dental work done.
