Hi,
Ok I started lurking here last year and joined with thoughts of taking my first European backpacking trip on my mind. Well that never came to fruition so I disappeared. But now I am back to my lurking ways this time with a trip booked in concrete. While its not backpacking or Europe, I shall be spending 6 weeks in Guatemala in May and June voluntering. I am super geeked about my trip and figured I should say hi before I start up with my questions about Central America that are bound to come in the next two months. So yeah, hi?

Hi Sarah ! *welcome on board*

We'll be glad to answer your questions but will you tell us more about your project in Guatemala ? Are you going with a NGO, or did you find volunteer work yourself ? What kind of work will you be doing ?

I am going with Global Vision International and will teaching at a school outside of Antigua. It should be an intersting experience since I believe the lessons are suppossed to in Spanish ( the children are indigenous Mayan) and well I don't know spanish. But I am starting lessons and will be taking intensive ones once I get there. I am fully aware that I will be learning more about myself on this trip than I will ever be able to teach.

Given the opportunity for some time off, be sure you go see the ruins at Tikal. Fabulous, well worth the trip!
