Hello!!! I am Rachael and am 20 and from good ol merry England I am planning my first backpacking trip to America with my boyfriend and we are both really excited, Neither of us can wait but there is so much to do the only thing which gets to me is that what do we do?what do we see, We are going for around 80-85 days and deffo want to go to Florida and would love to go to massachussetts(Sorry spelling?)

The other option which is quite visable is just have a general idea and then dont worry about it until we are there and have 80 days when we are there to do things on teh spur of the moment and from word of mouth. What do you think?

Anyways I am into punk/indie/rock/80's/ska music, love films and travelling and intend on doing it for a very long time!
I like to think I am open minded to and about pretty much anything.

Hope to get to know some of you and I'm sure this is a just a dandy forum to be on so

Cheers mateys!

Yeah I like to have some sort of plan other wise I will go mental lol, But I think there is a lot of me which is excited by being able to go and not have to plant he exact 80 days down to the T like we would say with a 14 day holiday.

Weare planning to go August time, as that si when we will prob have a fair amount of money, so not sure where is recomended for that time of year?

hey- welcome to the boards.

i think massachusetts is a great place to start (i'm a little biased.) the only thing is it's a tough city to have fun in if you're under 21. The bars/clubs (with the exception of chinatown) are really strict about underage drinking. on the plus side it's a huge college town and there's always something to do.

Thank you one question though (being a member of another forum I sense this is the kind of question which gets asked about 80 times a day) BUT here goes, how do I get the password to the members lounge? My password didn't work so I assume I would have to pm a mod or something to be allowed?

Welcome to TPunk!!

If you have 80 or so days, and are leaving around august,I would say start in the north and work you're way south. That way as the weather turns to fall, you will be somewhere warm all the time. as for where exactly to go and what to do... i dunno know. but im sure either way you're gonna have a blast.

Brucha habaa!

The Eastern US is full of history and culture and will be a great time for you! Definitely work your way South if you can.

Where else have you backpacked?

Welcome aboard!

Just an FYI: Spur-of-the-moment travel isn't as easy in the States as it is un the UK and the rest of Europe, largely because of the size, and also because of fewer cheap/quick transport options. Rail travel is a bit of a joke and buses can be a bit dodgy, while airlines typically require 21-day advance booking to get decent fares. Research well and seek out advice from the many locals here to make the most of your travel time here.

All that aside, it's not a trip to the US without visiting California - San Francisco, in particular.

Welcome to Tpunk! I see you are visting Florida so I'll bet you're going to visit Miami, my home city . Of course you'll want to check out the beach. If you're there during March you should check out the Youth Fair. They've got rides, games, art expositions (I've had my art featured there one year when I was in grade school lol), food, etc. Its huge!

Also there is a beautiful mansion called Vizcaya that has been converted into a museum. "The house was intended to appear as an Italian estate that had stood for 400 years and had been occupied and renovated by several generations of a family. It has 34 decorated rooms of 15th through 19th century antique furnishings and art objects. The house appears to be only two stories high but between the main public rooms and the bedrooms, there is an intervening level with 12 rooms for servants and service."

You must try some Cuban food since it will be authentic, as there is such a large Cuban population living in Miami.

In a different state, if you like mountains, I'd have to recommend you visit Asheville, North Carolina. Its the main town in the Blue Ridge Mountains and there is lots to do in the surrounding area.

I'm New York-bred...a Chicago resident for many years...and international traveler...

But my heart will forever be in Nashville, Tennessee...Nashville (and Memphis) are my definite recommendations. I absolutely love the southern United States. If you want more in-depth info, contact me.
