Bestow Upon Me Your Guidance and Wisdom!
I am a 22 year old University student who has interrupted her studies to embark on her first (of many) travelling expeditions... so here's my plan:
Sometime in June my boyfriend of forever and I will be going to Japan to teach English for a year part time. While there we want to EXPLORE!!
When we come back in June 2006 we want to use the money we save to travel through Europe for as long as we can (we are looking at around 2-3 months)
So I will be absorbing all your advice about backpacks, what to pack, which hostels to go to, which sights to see when, travelling tips from country to country.
I also want to commend you all on taking the time to convey your thoughts for others to read! YOU ROCK!

JUST realized you were probably alluding to his name... its late where I am....
His name is Geoff.
Anywhoo.. my purpose for scoping out this site is that we are looking for hotspots to hit in Japan first... then some more hotspots for Europe..
We are looking to go to the UK (we both have family there that we are shacking up with) then I want to go to Germany, Spain, France, Italy and he wants to go to the Netherlands.
Any ideas for anywhere else or places in particular? I am not going to go to Greece for the simple fact that I want to reserve a trip all on its own for Greece... I'm an aspiring Classicist... so I don't think I could limit myself to a week in Greece.
We will be in Japan from June 2005- June 2006 then we will be going to Europe.. after that... maybe S. America.. I dunno.. thats too far in the future

Thanks for the welcome!
So.. first question.. HOW far ahead should I be booking hostels/ buying train tickets etc. ?
Maybe I'm anxious but I am already thinking about Europe and I haven't even been to Japan yet!

Not yet.
You should talk to Tancred about teaching english in Asia, he just got back from Thailand and Korea.
When the time comes closer to Europe, I can help.

Sounds awesome - actually, we may have a lot in common. I'm 22 (only difference is I married that guy I've been stuck with forever haha). Also taking some time off from my studies. We're doing things the other way around - starting off with Europe and if that falls through heading to SE Asia (hopefully Thailand) to TESL. You'll love these boards.
