'Allo
Hi. Been a minute.
I seem to have misplaced my brain into a deep fryer. Nice to see the TP gang is still alive and kicking.
Later, back to the Rick Steves marathon on public television!
-Steve

Still living, guys. I guess I should change my sig picture, eh? No longer the evil moderator type..
Opened a restaurant in December as the head chef, but its wearing me down. Most weeks I work 70 hours or so, and its a total drag. I'd like to say I'm making money for a big vacation, but so far its just subsistence. Plus, with gas at $4 a gallon, my chances for an extended camping trip in the Taco are slim to nil. Perhaps hitting WVa for a few days round 4th of July if I play it right.
Most of my traveling has been vehicle based for some time. Years ago, I embarked upon building an expedition travel vehicle with a 1990 4Runner. I know WWMike remembers that POS!
Anyway, the latest incarnation of Expo/Zombie Evasion vehicle is a 2004 Tacoma. I've added some of the basics: ARB bull bumper, winch points, auxiliary lighting front and rear (if you are like me, it seems you're always setting up camp at night.), a cap to contain all my gear, CB with 2m on the way, big knobby tires, and eventually a bed-based sleeping arrangement. The few nights I've had to spend in the cab because it was raining too hard were rough. But then again, that night a black bear came into camp, so its best we were in the cab. That trip, loaded down with all the gear, food, bikes, and beer for the next 7 days, the fetching Mrs. and I did the Mt. Washington Auto Road. White knuckling the whole way.
Anyway, creature comforts aside, its my preferred method of travel. Light enough that I can get out quickly, and heavy enough that I can get to where nobody is. Eventually, I'd like a full on off road camping trailer, but the damned things cost more than I paid for the truck. As for now, its equipped with all the necessities of camping-type tools.
I guess I decided that after a while it was worth it to see the USA for a bit then branch back out.
Anyway, thanks for the welcome back.

Glad to hear you're alive and well! No shame in traveling the good ol' US of A. That's all I've been doing myself - with the US dollar value what it is now, it will be awhile before many of us head across the pond.
