Hey all.

I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a travel filled new year. Anyways, Im a newbie backpacker from India. Planning to take off for 2-4 months in Europe. Not sure if I want to travel to East / West Europe. Any idea on how the weather is between March-July ?

Oh and one other thing, I thought it'd be nice to travel for the Environment / contribute for the greater good / give something back. While, I would like to do this, I dont want this to take the fun out of my intended vagabond travel experience :D

Any ideas?

There are SOOOO many short volunteering opportunities abroad (I bought a book online but I'm sure searching would yield the same results)...

I mean, a lot of it is short term stuff... like 1-2 weeks. Try www.idealist.org and www.volunteermatch.com or even googling "volunteering abroad". When I dig up my book about volunteering abroad I will post some more links.

Personally I think the best thing you can do while travelling is be kind to the locals, and make a serious effort to have a human interaction with them, other than just tourist-merchant interaction.

In my personal view, I think those schemes to "build houses overseas in impoverished country X" smacks a little of cultural self-righteousness and colonialism. I could be wrong, but I feel that it takes away opportunities from locals who are the ones who should be getting paid for doing the job.
