Hello, hello!
Just joined yesterday and have been browsing the forum-- you all seem MAJORLY helpful, I've already had lots of questions answered without even having to ask! Have a few about how Eurail passes work, so if anyone can point me in the directions of some good posts about that, I would appreciate it. (:
Anyway, I am about to embark on my first solo trip to Europe at the end of July! Just for two weeks and I will be spending a few days with a friend in London and later on, a few days with a friend in Mannheim. A bit nervous about doing it solo (was supposed to have two friends with me, but it didn't work out), but it seems like that is pretty normal.
I'm looking to hit London, maybe Paris, Brugge, Mannheim and Berlin over the course of two weeks, but I'm only going to book the Berlin hostel in advance since I'd like some flexibility during the trip, unless that seems to be a pretty bad idea.
Anyway, it's been a rather long introduction, but I imagine I will run into some of you on the Western Europe and Solo Travelling boards. (:
Initial question, is about $100/day considering a fairly normal budget??
Looking forward to meet you all & hope you can stomp out some of my fears about travelling solo!
mariem

Welcome to the boards. I'm pretty new as well, but i'm still alowed to welcome you.
Don't worry about going solo on your trip, you'll meet people, and maybe travel with them a bit. Though if you've been reading the boards, then you probabily already figured that out.

Welcome! dude, I'm very curious. . . How the hell can a person be on that type of budget and spend so little. Let me explaIn, I spent 200$ yesterday on nothing! I don't even recall buying food or anything all I know is I spent 200$ in something and I don't even know what the hell I bought! Oh and like 3 weeks ago I spent around 1k in a single weekend, thing is all I bought was some cookies and vodka, the rest was comp'd. I think I have a wallet gnome! Fing Gnomes! Oh question question is Mariem good looking? and if the answer is yes may I hit on you? and if yes PM me!

$100 per day will give you peace of mind, my friend ! Unless you plan on doing shopping and expensive activities abroad, as Jake said, 50-75 is fairly enough.
Or did you include transportation ?
Welcome on travelpunk !

Welcome mariem
$100 a day will be fine if you keep your partying slightly in check.
Solo travelling is definately nerve racking if you haven't done it before, but seriously, you'll get over there and make so many friends and you'll wonder why on earth you were so worried in the first place.
You'll have a blast you lucky bugger!!

Welcome to the boards!
Enjoy your first solo travel, I'm about to embark on my first solo experience in July too, also for two weeks but nowhere near Europe. :P Let us know how it goes, I'm sure you'll have a blast!

Everyone's so helpful here and a wealth of information! And traveling alone can be such a great experience all around - just get in the headspace to have fun and you will.

Hint Hint! I was trying to not spend money! and I finished up spending all I had in my wallet( Bless cards thou). The thing is I don't spend on liqour and I'm not even smoking, J.D actually bought the food. So I'm curious what the hell did I get that was that expensive and obvious useless cause I can't remember! So far I know I spent 1.25$ on Green tea gum, 2.50$ on Ito En (green tea), and I have my Metro pass & NJ Transit Passes (therefore the money didn't run out on trans) Oh yeah and my Daily breakfast which is a gallon of organic soy milk and a bran muffin (1.99$, 2.50$), which gives me a gran total of: 8.24$. So my question is. . . Where the hell are my remaining 191.76$???????? It makes no sense! and the funny thing I finish up spending money the crappy days! for some odd reason I have more fun when I'm clean and I have nothing in my wallet (well my debit card is always there but that's just for safety).
