Can anyone give me some kind of indication as to what everyday items cost in Sri Lanka. Ive been trying to do some research online before I leave on my trip, and Sri Lanka is proving to be a little difficult to gather info.

If someone could let me know the cost of...

1. Train Travel
2. Accommodation (Low-Mid Range)
3. Eating Out / Snacks (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, In between munch)
4. Beer

Feel free to contribute any other items I may have forgot that may be deemed as useful.

Also, if anyone could point me in the direction of a Sri Lankan rail map that too would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Gav

First, the ever necessary travel warning:

Quote:
Sri Lanka lost tens of thousands of lives and received massive property damage in the 2004 tsunami. Though many areas are gradually on the mend, travellers are advised to keep abreast of our tsunami-specific information, stories and downloads at Tsunami Updates.

Recent skirmishes and civil protests have seen strain placed on the agreed ceasefire between the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE (Tamil Tiger) faction. Areas north of Puttalam, Anuradhapura and Nilaveli, as well as the eastern side of the island south of Trincomalee, including Batticaloa, remain unsafe for travellers. Pockets of the northern and eastern areas are heavily mined. The security situation in the Jaffna Peninsula remains uncertain. The A9 road to Jaffna remains heavily mined.
They use Sri Lanka rupees which are about 1 rs to .0099 cents. It says the average price of a small beer is 130 Rs which is equivalent to about a $1.28. Low end room costs are about $3.00-6.00 with medium range about $3.00 to $15.00.

Low end meals are about $ .50 to $3.00.
