travelling with a newly dislocated shoulder..?
hey all!
I am supposed to be moving to canada this coming sunday to work and play for a year but stupidly managed to dislocate my right shoulder snowboarding on monday
Its back in and getting x rayed today but not terribly comfy! has any body had any experience trying to travel in a similar situation?? my parents are trying to convince me to postpone
My main concern is that im really down to one arm for a few weeks. My initial plan was to do fly from nz to vancouv er (15 hours) then spend 3 days in vancouver and head to banff in search of work...

Can you find a place in either one of those cities to rent for a couple of weeks? Where the xrays negative?

Ohhh no denise that sucks!!
I have nothing constructive to say, except I hope it heals quickly and that you don't have to postpone!

I think you can have one-armed fun in Vancouver. If nothing else there are a TON of tpunks around Seattle/Vancouver who can hopefully entertain you.
I don't know what to tell you about the flight though, New Zealand to Vancouver is a pretty shitty flight already without being in a sling. Maybe your doctor can help, I bet a couple vicodin and an ambien and you will be lucky to remember 10 minutes of that flight!

Ta for your replies, radioligist picked three bone fragments ive torn off when i dislocated it but wont get the full report for a few days, getting an ultrasound tomorrow to check what damage ive done to ligaments etc.
I have deciced to postpone for two weeks, its going to cost a couple of hundred dollars in flight changes but id easily blow more than that not working and paying for accomodation etc over there. It sux cos it will make it harder to find a job/place to live in banff but at the same time currently i cant get dressed by myself/wash my n hair/cut my own food and travelling by myself that would easily become more than a mission. At two to three weeks im hoping to be comfortable enough to use my arm for lower range motion so fingers crossed it'll be more practical then :S not an easy call though, and pretty gutted at the thought of killing another fortnight at my parents just recovering

I think you made the right decision there. I assume you are going to Banff to work a ski season? I imagine that most jobs relating to skiing require the use of both arms. So, I would say that turning up to job interviews with your arm in a sling would pretty well kill your chances of scoring a job.
Now, just because you're not going to be in Banff doesn't mean you can't start looking for work over the net (just google Canada ski resort jobs and you'll find a heap of employment sites). Also, does it have to be Banff? You would really maximise your employment opportunities if you were willing to look at other places as well (Lake Louise, Kicking Horse, Big White, Whistler, Fernie, Sunshine, Canmore, etc).

Ultrasound wasn't good, have definately torn off three bits of bone and potentially detached the top part of my bicep. I now have to wait for a specialist appointment to see if and when they will operate. god only knows when i will get to leave for canada at this stage. On a plus atlest they have finally given me something stroner than panadol.
I actually am pretty flexible about where i work, but gunning for banff if at all possible as i have friends there at the mo. I think even in a few weeks im likely to need a sling so will probably stick to looking for a desk job as i can still type etc ok.
Oohh might take u up on that ta! Won't be sure of my plans for a bit though sorry and may even push straight on to Banff as i think the later i arrive the harder its gonna be to find a job/place to stay...
