We are looking for some tips on how to chalk out our plan in germany... We are starting from frankfurt on 27th and need to be back there in 5 days..FLying aint possible for us since we have alredy invested in the Eurail pass...we really want to see the historical side of germany and drink a little bit while we do that
All advice is welcome

5 days isnt much for Germany, so its maybe best to concentrate on 1 or 2 places.
You could maybe go to Cologne for 3 days and maybe to Trier, staying in the West of Germany so you dont waste so much time travelling. I lived in Cologne for a while and loved it, the Cathedral is incredible. Trier is a beautiful little city on the moselle river. Theres plenty of history in both those places - Trier is the oldest city in Germany and has some Roman ruins.
Berlin is maybe a bit far away, unless you spent the whole time there, but you would still waste a lot of time getting there.
hope that helps

Totally agree. Don't bother with Berlin unless you plan on doing it right! The smaller cities are beautiful and awesome and can be done in your timeframe. Stick to the region, and you'll have an awesome time.
PS. The drinking is great ALL over Germany, so no frets about being in the wrong cities for some fluessiges Brot!

Personally I would stick to one region, Bavaria. Same thing happened to me my first trip. I was too drunk or hung-over to really see Munich and it’s a shame because it’s a great city. I would defiantly go back if I were you and see it properly. It has lots of history and the best beer mmmmmmm. Turned out to be my favorite city once I gave it the chance it deserves. {Mike’s bike tour and The Crawl in Munich is fun.}
Munich is only a 4 hour train ride from Frankfurt. It could also be a base of travel to smaller cities, Between Munich and Frankfurt is Nurnberg Heidelberg and Stuttgart. Fussen {Neuchwanstein Castle} is a few hours south of Munich. If castles strike your fancy.
I’ve spent lots of time in Frankfurt and can’t say I really enjoyed it. So I would skip Frankfurt. Have Fun, Sandy

Another vote for a Koln/Trier area visit. The history ranges from Roman to modern (you could visit Bonn, less than an hour from Koln (Cologne), plus see the vineyards which are gorgeous right now - we picked grapes a few weeks ago and the sight of the vines along the Rhine is spectacular. Word of warning - in our little corner of Germany yesterday it was blowing half a gale and pouring rain much of the day, today it has been gloriously sunny and balmy (maybe 12 C/55 F), so be prepared for changeable weather!

Nuernberg is an hour away from Frankfurt, I would suggest three days there. I <3 that town... I have heard amazing things about Koeln. I have friends from there. Or maybe just go to Frankfurt and see how wmany day trips out to other cities you can do?

Thanks for all the help guys !
well we couldnt quite convince ourselves not to go to berlin so went there and have ended up spending all our time here....now hoping to head to spain day after tomorrow...
Berlin was outstandingly good... quite surprising nobody ever talks about the new berlin tour in berlin which is free( this is for real) and amazingly good... a great way to start berlin and then maybe concentrate on specific places in or around berlin...
So now... spain beckons..but once again.. our planning skills have deserted us and we are in need of expert advice!
We wanted to know which beaches are the best to hit at this time of the year..we are quite honestly.. lazy bum sand we want to sit on a beach for 5 days
Thanks again!
