not going
sorry if you read the original version of this, and any of the mods feel free to move this thread out of this topic...
Anyway long story short, I was in the ER last week for some probs and now am experiencing similar ones after walking a bit today and my doctor called me back tonight and recommended I do not go to South America on Saturday.
This is so frustrating. The good news is, I can use my flight voucher for in May when I go to LA for the Ellen DeGeneres show... I can even upgrade the tix to first class, and still have a $60 credit.
I swear to god, it's like this ticket is cursed. I bought the ticket to Peru in September and couldn't afford to go after some drama, then changed it to Costa Rica for December and still was recovering from money issues so I didn't go, so then I changed it to spring break to Cartagena and now the money works out in my favor but now I have this other thing to think about.

^ what she said. I would normally advocate the "go go go" philosophy in almost any situation, but it looks as though the universe wants you to stay here. At least for the moment.
Take care of the two of you!!

I've never been pregnant so can't speak from personal experience, but I'm gonna go with the crowd and say that your health and that of your baby has got to be the number one priority.
Columbia isn't going anywhere.

At this point, I'd say it wouldn't be a good idea to travel to a foreign country by yourself if you're having some issues. A doctor who knows you and who knows your situation won't be at your disposal if something should go wrong. Save the ticket for the Ellen show... First class, hell yes!
Besides, Colombia will be so much more interesting when you're not going to be worried about every little thing... and when you can take pictures with your baby, too!

With five kids born in five different places and 9 other moves in between, I have a little experience with pregnant/travel issues. Your doc is right, if there's a concern, wait, and don't lose sleep about it. It'll all work out for the best, long term.

well the concern was how I was doing this finals week - I was super stressed out, not taking care of myself and wound up in the ER... my doc said if I was doing better I could go for sure if I got some free time in June-ish so I re-did my tickets instead for the week after I am done with school for the summer, so at least I won't get shit canned for the beach.
it is what it is and I will get there.

just double check with the airline and get a drs note in case they give you any problems.
Good luck with induction methods....I ate spicy foods, walked constantly ( 7 miles one night) and he wouldn't come out I ended up being induced a week late...babies are stubborn !!

Only a week, with your first baby? Lucky you. Between them, my kids were 40 days late. But they were all fully cooked and I think extra healthy for the additional time, so it's all good. In retrospect. The induction cocktail of choice in my German hospital was a champagne and cod-liver oil "shake". Thankfully, I dodged that bullet by about twelve hours...
Do get a letter from your dr. I flew exactly at the deadline for an international flight during my most recent pregnancy and wasn't questioned, but I didn't look as far along as I was.
Some people carry more obviously than others (and even differently from baby to baby, in my case), so if you look farther along then you are, you may need a letter even if you've plenty of time. There's no health reason you shouldn't fly if yours is a healthy pregnancy, the airlines just don't want to deal with a mid-air delivery or a diverted landing! Though if any baby is going to be born mid-air, it might as well be a t'punkers!

'Carpe diem' is a phrase that comes from this Latin poem by Horace
Don't ask (it's forbidden to know) what end
Babylonios the gods will grant to me or you, Leuconoe.
Don't play with Babylonian fortune-telling either,
It is better to endure whatever will be.
Whether Jupiter has allotted to you many more winters or this final one
which even now wears out the Tyrrhenian sea on the rocks placed opposite
be wise, strain the wine, and scale back your long hopes to a short period.
While we speak, envious time will have {already} fled
Seize the day, trusting as little as possible in the next.
