What is the easiest, cheapest and most cost effective way of getting from Athens to Sorrento.

Currently im thinking of taking a ferry from Patras(Greece) to Bari (Italy). Then how in hell do i get from Bari to Sorrento? Someone suggested taking the train from Bari to Caserta, then to Naples then a Circumvesuviana Ferrovia to Sorrento. Yikes! Follwing this route i wonder what time i get to Sorrento if i start from Bari at 10 am.

I entered my info in rail saver athens to sorrento. It says Patras, Brindisi, Bari Sorrento $102, which includes ferry. Is that a good deal? How long will the journey take from Bari to Sorrento. Im trying to budget as much as possible. For the ferry i was just thinking of getting the cheapest deck fare 48 euroes.

HELP!!

According to the timetables I could dig up via RailEurope, you'd have to get up a bit earlier ;)

Bari Centrale 8:04a -> Taranto 9:14a (1h10m)
Taranto 10:05a -> Naples 2:42p (4h37m)

Total time: 5h47m

If you want to leave later, you could do the following route, but the total time is pretty crazy:

Bari Centrale 9:03a -> Foggia 10:05a (1h02m)
Foggia 11:17a -> Potenza Inferiore 1:35p (2h18m)
Potenza Inferiore 2:20p -> Naples 5:19p (2h59m)

Total time: 6h19m

It should cost you under $50 US for that leg.

From Naples, there's a train every half hour to Sorrento. It takes about one hour.

OK Omisan, I had just read this and started researching it for them. I have all the same stuff written down and was getting ready to post it. I'm impressed. Nice to meet you by the way! I've been reading and posting for about 6 months. Anyways!

Anne 06. Take bus 20 from the port to the station. (Statione Centrale). Try going to trenitalia.com, this is the Italian train site and there is a wealth of info there. You can also buy a 4 or more day pass for Italy if you are floating around. At the trenitalia.com site, look in the top write corner for an English button. Helps much!!! I've spent some time in the Napoli area, so if you need any advice, I may be able to help.
Happy Traveling
