Hey; I have a passport as I recently went to Europe but found tickets to Montreal for 199 round trip from Dallas. They are from Aug 19-22. Does my friend who also wants to go need a passport for sure or is there some sort of loophole for a short stay? Thanks in advance..

as far as i know you MUST have one. i live about 4 hours from canada and it was the cool thing to do before you turned 21 and now people are getting mad that they need that to go and get drunk on a weekend.

Nope. Air and sea travel ending PRIOR to December 31, 2006 needs the normal birth certificate and driver's license. AFTER December 31, 2006, air and sea travel WILL require a PASSPORT or other secure proof of citizenship (to be determined...not necessarily birth certificate) to re-enter the US. These regulations will not be in effect for land crossings until December 31, 2007.

As long as your buddy has his birth certificate and driver's license, you're fine.
