I have a flight from Bangkok to London (11 hours) and by the time I get there it will be like 1am for my body clock (really 7pm in London). Im guessing I wont wanna then find my way out of the airport get on the tube for nearly an hour and find my hostel in Central London in the dark. Anybody know of a good hostel/hotel (and relatively inexpensive) in Heathrow that maybe has a shuttle bus or transfer?

Dude if you find this white whale, then tell the world...cause that would be good information.

I have a feeling this might be some difficult to find, so if you get strapped for a bed and ya really want one, the next best thing would be the express train from the airport to Paddington Stn and find a hostel near there.

BUt at 13P one way ( last time i went) its still $$$
or save the extra $$$ and sprinf for some serious "non-budget" sleep and stay at the Airport Hilton

tell me about it. I couldnt find a hostel near the airport. You would think that there would be some kind of demand for this from budget travellers who have just got off a long haul flight

hmmmm looks like I might have to do a dodgey. I guess this leads me to my next question....
anybody know how safe it is to be travelling on the tube at 8pm (picadilly line) and to be walking near Russell Sq. to The Generator?

You'll be fine in that area at 8pm, no big deal. I've wandered around alone after 11pm around there with no problems.

if your going to be staying inlondon for a while i recomend biting the bullet and taking the express into town, i know its expensive but its 15 mins vs over an hour by normal time.

Also when i was there i had a reasonably early flight, so i wanted to stay somewhere near paddington (remeber that u can check in for some flights at the Paddington, check your bags and do you last day of sightseeing unencombered)(but check with your airline first)

Anywho i stayed at the atlantic hotel it was 30 quid a room, which was about the cheapest icould find in that area and its about 2 blocks form Paddington, so its easy to walk there. (i managed it with a 35kg suitcade and a full backpack.so anyone can)

urozm8, and even though it may be 1 am according to your body clock you should still be ok for a few hours, take some sleeping pills on the plane (thelights are normally our for about 6 hours on that flight) so u should be able to get some sleep, just hope u dont have a snorere just behind your left ear like i did and u should be fine.

good luck

If you do wind up going the Heathrow express route, the Ascot Hotel is right across the street from Paddington, about 40 quid a night. A little dingy, but clean rooms and it's nice and quiet.

Have a great trip!
