I had planned on staying at the Flying Pig or The Bulldog while in Amsterdam. I didn't plan on making advance reservations. I looked online tonight to see what the availability was and they were both booked up. Do you think there will be the possibility of walk-ins? Should I try and call a couple days out? Or is there another Hostel anyone recommends?
I am traveling by myself so I want to avoid the pension and hotel option if possible.
Your best bet is to call both 2 days out and 1 day out, if still booked, arrive at the hostel after 10 a.m., and you may get lucky. A lot of Hostels will hold a couple bunks from the online sites for walkins. If not, lots of people sleep at Schipol, Its secure, of course sleep on your shit, and the train ticket is cheap from Centraal. Good luck

Whatever you do don't stay at St. Christophers, people were getting their shit stolen out of there. One guy in our room had his passport and wallet taken in the night. Granted it was retarded of him not to lock it up, but still.

The Flying Pig keeps a certain number of beds for walk-ins available every day. The trouble is that you have to start lining up around 7am to have a chance at one.
If you can't make it, some of the hotels along Damrak are actually very reasonable, so if you need one night there, no prob - then you can go line up at the Pig the next morning.
