online hostel reservations?

what are your thoughts on the best way to find hostel accomodations?
i'll be visiting cities like barcelona, cordoba, and lisbon in a few weeks and i'm wondering whether I should bother reserving online a day or two before moving onto a new town. If this is the way to go can anyone suggest a website?

of course you're right, i will use travelpunk whenever possible. but i recently checked and couldn't find any hostels IN cordoba so I'd like to know if anyone's come by a site that has one listed. Or maybe there just aren't any hostels in the city?

Travelpunk has never let me down. Plus, the deposit is totally reasonable. So, if your plans do change and you cancel in time you usually are only out a few bucks.

Also, TP has several hostels listed in Cordoba.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, though it initially appears as though there are plenty of hostels in cordoba, upon closer inspection the ones i've seen so far are either hostals (spanish for inn or b&b rather than hostel), hotels, or not actually in the city of cordoba itself. Anyway, i'll check out those links and maybe raid the let's go and lonely planets at the bookstore.

if the online hostel search that you use shows that all hostels are booked or a certain hostel that you want try calling the hostel as most will have beds available via phone reservation.
