so ive read that alot of hostels dont like you bringing liquor into their dorms or onto the premises. is it legal to drink in the streets in europe? i know in canada its entirely illegal and gets you a nice liquor ticket. :jawdrop:

keep it secret. keep it safe.

listen to jake's lord of the rings reference. you can bring it and drink it, but just don't go advertising it around to the employees. no one is going to check your bags for contraband though, so just be smart about it.

and yes you can drink in the streets

The Sasquatch 04-18-2006 02:10 PM

actually the bar i was in last night would pour your beers into plastic cups to take away when they were shutting things down

You can pretty much drink anywhere in Europe legally. Except in the taxi's. Yes, the mean taxi driver made me dump it out before I got in. Anyhow, they're very liberal about alcohol over there. I brought alcohol in many times and drank it in the common room/outside/dining area. There was nothing secretive about it. Everyone did. It's really no big deal. I never saw any signs in any hostel saying no alcohol on premises. I think the only issue about drinking in a dorm would be if it's you and a couple people doing it, it's really disrespectful to your dormmates if you're talking and laughing etc. But, it's not a big deal if you're sipping a beer while reading a book.

ok in most areas of the UK you CANNOT drink in the streets and you will land yourself a hefty fine if caught in an area where it has a notice up (usually town centres etc)

I know you can drink on the tube in london and pretty much anywhere else. Even the passengers in cars can drink, which blew my mind.

The only problem the cops will have with you drinking on the street is if you have a glass bottle or a glass. Cans are ok.

I've never had any problems drinking stuff in hostels it's usually wiskey and I always offer some to anyone in the room.

thx for all the advice. i like the drinking incar rule haha, booze cruise! i never really go around flaunting and always share so that should not be a problem. so the U.K is the only country i will really have a problem with? and by problem i mean just have to watch, here in canada the cops are nazis about open liquor anywhere but the bar and you house.

Germany is fine about it as well. in fact you might even get tramps offering to take your empty bottles off you so they can collect the deposit (you haveto pay deposits on all bottles in germany)

Its quite wierd to see, on friday and saturday nights you see loads of tramps with trolleys full of empty beer bottles, they must make quite a bit of money out of it. it keeps the streets tidy as well

ya its the same thing here downtown sorta. you dont have to worry if you throw cans on the road or on the sidewalk cause its guaranteed somebody is followin you to pick them up. although here you gotta be sneaky about the open liquor haha. we take it in coffee mugs, 7-11 containers, pop cans, anything we can think of haha
