Welcome!

I've never stayed in a hostel in NYC so I can't help you there, but in terms of stuff to do and see:

Get out of Manhattan! At the very least check out Flatbush Ave. in Brooklyn, and if you've got more time out there Prospect Park. You could live your whole life in Brooklyn and not know everything out there.

The Met: as stereotypical as it is, the Metropolitan Museum is a great way to spend a cold day, especially since admission is "suggested donation."

Let me know what kind of stuff you like to do and I can give you some more ideas.

I stayed at the Chelsea International Hostel for a few days 2 weeks ago. Highly recommend it!

I'm a photographer so would love to see some exhibitions if possible. I also like to shop maybe like markets or cheap factory outlet where you can get designer stuff discounted???!!! Any nice bars/clubs to go to - but ill be alone so somewhere thats safe.

Well the Met is huge, lots of things to see but low on photography. You'll have to go to some of the more modern, more expensive museums. MoMA is good, but I think $20 to get in. Try the Guggenheim, too. For revolving exhibits, pick up a couple of papers the first day you're there, definitely the Times and maybe the News and the Post. They'll let you know what there is to see.

I'm not much into shopping, but you can get cheap "designer" stuff on Canal street. You can usually find little stores that aren't extremely expensive. Try midtown and look for things that barely look like stores. I was in one place that just looked like a shoe store, but then the basement was huge and filled with clothes.

I wasn't 21 last time I was there, but you could always go to the real Coyote Ugly, just to say you went.

Have a great trip! Where are you going in Europe?
