My partener and I are going travelling around europe for 3and a half months in april, we're starting in Italy - Switzerland - France - Luxembourg - Belgium - Holland - Germany - Poland - Hungary - Czech Rep - Austria - Croatia - Romania and greece.
We have been looking for tent but after much searching for a really good, light wieght suitable and cheap tent we've soon discovered how expensive the gear is going to cost. Are we better off just doing hostels and campsites that have house tents or will it be worth us buying are own? does anyone know what availability and price of hostels and campsites are between april - July and which is best?

If you are going to camp, then you'll want to buy your own tent. It will end up cheaper in the long run, and it also gives you the option to camp in unique places

You can go to SportsmanGuide and buy an inexpensive ($25 ish) bivy tent. Not super high quality, but it worked for us. It wieghed about 3 lbs and we just strapped it to the outside of our bags. You can also pick up a cheap tent at a Carrefour in Europe.

I have to agree with kingcrazylegs. If you plan on camping, bring your own tent. If you are going to bring a tent, bring a nice one. I cannot tell you how bad it is when you wake up with water dripping on your head because your tent is not waterproof.

For a good tent, I would personally recommend Kelty. The Trail Dome 2 is a 6 lbs. two-person tent that is so simple to set-up. It will take a good chuck of your bag (folded up it is about 2 foot long and about 6-7 inch in diameter), but it will not take a chunk of your money. I think you can pick them up on Ebay for about $75-85 brand new.

Hope that helps!
