Like I've said somewhere else, I'll be traveling with my 16-year-old bro. So, ah, how strict are hostels about age, especially if a minor is accompanied by an adult?

It really depends on the hostel. I used to work at one in CA and we *said* there was an age restriction, but we did make exceptions. Especially if it is a 16-17 year old...My best advice would be to phone the hostel before you get there and just double check. I would say in most cases you will be fine, especially since you are an adult.

Most hostels dont care, even the ones that might say age restictions dont care either. Its ment to keep school groups of like a dozen 13 year olds out. The age restrictions dont really apply to your brother so much.

You will be able to tell what hostels wont make execptions. When you book online the hostel will have something like "NO ONE UNDER 18 ALLOWED! PASSPORTS WILL BE CHECKED". But it is something like "age restrction: 18-35" then you will most likely be fine.

I wouldnt worry about it. I only ran into one hostel online that had the serious age restriction.

Out of most of the hostels I looked at on hostelworld.com I found the minimum age to be 16. At least in Europe. Most don't list limits at all. You should be fine. You will be hard pressed to find a hostel with empty beds that will turn away money based on age.
