Places to Live

Thanks for the welcome guys. I have three more questions for you all.

1. Where, bar London would be a good place for an Aussie to live/work for 6mths +? Needs to be affordable, and still have, or be close to nightlife public transport...

2. How do you go about picking up a bit of work in western europe? Need a visa, or dont bother if its just a bit of work here and there? (not talking about uk)

3. Mobile Phones? Worth bringing one for easy sms to back home to friends, handy for emergencies/bookings. I took mine last time i went to europe, but that was only for a month. I was on a plan back here in australia, and the bill wasnt that much more than normal. Just not sure if its worth taking one thats on a plan back home for a period of up to 2 years. May be a bit of a pain paying bills over the net. Any Advice guys?
