I've been reading reviews online for Gothic Point and Kabul for Barcelona. Both sound like a lot of fun, but kinda dirty. Heard Kabul has communal showers? Also heard that both have got bed bugs. Any advice? I want to stay at a fun hostel where I can meet people and party, but I don't wanna stay in a dump either.

Both are about in the same area, which is charming and old, but at the same time, all the facilities are older. Kabul is definitely the party place (just ask some of the Punks who stayed there last summer!), but yeah, I did find the cheap beer at their bar to be pretty nasty.
Wherever you go in Barca, you're going to find people to party with (believe me!) so if cleanliness is more your interest, you might want to check out some of the newer hostels near the beach areas.

I was at Kabul last summer, the cheap beer is nasty, I thought it was wayyyy overpriced, but it was clean and the people who stayed there were cool (I'm not including the staff cause they wern't especially cool)

Ive stayed at Gothic point. Its a pretty cool place and is in a nice area, the staff were friendly and helpful and there is an organised pub crawl that they will try to get you to go on - which is a good laugh. The beds take a bit of getting use to but you have your own cubicle so you have a lot more privacy - which can be handy. The breakfast is free but nothing special. The only thing I wasnt so keen on was the common area as the way it is set up makes it hard to meet other people. Still its one of the best hostels I've stayed in.

Kabul is awesome, the beer isnt too bad (Ididnt ntice anyway) and its a euro for a big cup, they have nachos there after 6 (a huge plus), a decent free breakfast, free internet, and its in a great area. The only problem was it was too hot with no AC last summer.

Som I'm sorry I gotta disagree with ya on that whole Kabul deal... the Nacho's turn into plastic before you get a chance to eat them and granted the beer was cheap but I recommend a couple shots before trying to drink it (numb the taste)... Overall for the price... plus the deposite.. there's other options
But I totally agree that the location is amazing.. that square is beautiful
