Hey fellow travellers!
I haven't travelled much, but if I have to reccomend hostels, those ones would be my favourite:
a) Canada
I haven't seem many nice hostels there, but Global Village Backpackers in the corner of Kings with Spadina is fantastic. Bar, pool table and very good for socializing. The HI Montreal has quite the same features, but definately not the same 'out there' atmosphere.
B) Europe
In Dublin, Jacobs Inn is the best in my opinion, though no hostel in the city quite impressed me. In Stirling, Scotland, there's a very very nice hostel called Willy Wallace Backpackers (I worked there), the staff was amazing back then, the manager was a top guizzer and instead of staying there for three days, I stayed for two months! (and I've seen people that stayed way longer than Stirling deserves).
In Brugges, Belgium, the Snuffel Sleep In is also very cool with thousands of nice belgian beers on the bar and the music - perfect. Very good for socializing!
c) Brazil
Well, I live here, so it's not that I always stay in hostels... But Pousada Holandes and Aquario Suites are very good in Ilha Grande. Each one with its own features.
In Rio, the city I live, though I think it may sound seedy... I work in a hostel called Che Lagarto. I'm not saying we are the best and that I rock... I'll just say that I try to make the hostel very good and that all my efforts are directed for people to love the city I so dearly do.
Cheers!
Manel

Hey, great stuff Manel!
Some of the best backpacking info that backpackers can get is from those that have gone before us...Your info will be of great value for all backpackers that will view your recommendations!
I took a look at your website on Rio, and it looks very informative with a personal touch. Anyone visiting Rio, Brazil should have a look at it!
Thanks again!

best 3 hostels i have stayed in
1. Banff Y.H. very nice log cabin style - 4 beds to a dorm - nice cafe - next to National park and nice bushwalk to town -- but bloody noisy if you happen to be sober
2. Y.H. ANNEX at Anchorage - nice old wooden cottage close to town centre and free fresh fruit etc evey morning
3. Y.H. at Mitake Yama - nice private tatami rooms in quaint mountain top village
near heaps of walking trails - great night view from cable car station

I just got back from Europe and I'd like to tell you all my favorite hostels.
The Flying Pig in Amsterdam (everyone seems to know about this ine)
Yellow Hostel in Rome (Bigger Dorm rooms, and a litttle out of the way, but close to the Train Station which was good. Very cool staff and people from all over the world there)
Los Amigos in Madrid (except for the lack of air conditioning or even fans at 45C it ahd everything one could want in a hostel. People were great including the staff. The location was ideal. No curfew no lock down time.)
Barcelona Mars in Bacelona obviously was nice too. Met some great people there. Air Conditioning after Madrid was very nice.
Those were my favorite hostels.

Thanks for the list, FHW´s!
Those hostels are definitely extremely popular among backpackers. sucks about the non-AC at Los Amigos But, the ambience, I´m sure, made up for it!

Some hostels in BC, Canada
The Kicking Horse Hostel in Golden BC
There isn't alot to offer in Golden but if you are travelling through the area and need a place for the night, this is a really nice place. It's a house that you basically have the run of. The owners stay upstairs and keep to themselves... so you don't have somone constantly looking over your shoulder. It's a big place with a large kitchen, tv, movies, etc. There is a cat and dog there, but they are for the outside.
