I'm heading to Prague in about a week and a half, and I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a good hostel as far as fun and location?

One of the best hostels I have stayed at in Europe was The Boathouse in Prague. The owner is great and she remembers everyones name. The rooms are plain but clean. The bathrooms and showers are clean. They offer meals there which I have heard are very good, but I did not try myself. You even get free postcards when you check in. The one negative is that it is a 15 minute tram ride from the city center, so if you want something in the center of town this place might not before for you.
Some other popular ones are Clown & Bard, Traveller's Hostel, and Sir Toby's. I would advise you from staying at the Apple Hostel and Arena Hostel. Both of these are dirty, but Apple Hostel is right in the center of town.

Has anyone heard of Arena Hostel or Golden Sickle Hostel in Prague? I'm planning on staying in Prague, too, and need hostel advice. Both of these look good and relatively cheap, but I'm not sure...

I stayed at Arena Hostel (I mentioned this above) and did not like it. It was kind of dirty, the showers had no pressure, and they put me in the 19 bed room when I had booked a 6-8 bed room. This was last year and it seems as they have improved since then, and have added a nice bar in the basement from what I have read. The place is somewhat on the outer part of the town, but it is close to a metro station. I think there are better hostels that you could find at a price pretty close to this one.

Don't know either of the ones mentioned, but I stayed at the Prague Lion (in a double) and, while the hostel was somewhat clean, I was extremely disappointed in the staff. Very rude, frequently, lost my passport for a bit, and then the cab they ordered for us to get to the airport arrived thirty minutes late. We stayed there because it was the only place with space left available, and I can see why. The location is nice, though, but I'd definitely pick something else if you can avoid it.

We just got back from Prague, stayed at B&B Ota - it's not a hostel, and perhaps a bit more pricey (since we booked a six bed apartment for our crew, I don't know the prices for the smaller rooms), but there was an interesting group of people, and the owner of the place - well, let's just say Jerry Garcia didn't die, he's now running a B&B in Prague. It was great, just a couple of metro stops from the centre, and easy by transit to both the train station and airport. Incidentally, though beautiful, Prague was swamped with tourists a week ago. Hopefully it'll be better when you're there... Great weather though! And there are some awesome photo displays of the 2002 floods - check out the exhibit in the Town Hall, even if you don't want to go up for the panoramic view.

I stayed at the Arena hostel about a month ago and it was a great place. The bar downstairs is large and serves good food for reletivly cheap. They had firedancing when I was there, totally reckless in this wooden room at the bottom of a small spiral staircase, but cool nontheless. It pretty far from the center of town, but the tram runs right out front and they never check tickets so its basically free.
