Hi, i'm wondering if yall have slept outside [parks, rooftops, bushes etc] in Europe. Is it sketchy esp. in regards to police? I plan on travelling in late Sept. and Oct. to Spain, Paris, Prague, Germany, Copenhagen maybe. Any and all experience and thoughts are appreciated. Not planning to spend most time like that, but if i have to. Have experience in American cities [ny, philly, sf, honolulu...]. Thanks.

I used to sleep on the roof for most of the summer(s) whilst I was in Malta just because I there was no AC and so it was hotter than hell inside.

Slept outside in Portugal for a couple of nites and about froze my ass off ~ but no one messed with me.

Got ran off by the cops in Sicily sleeping under the stars near mount St. Helen. They more or less just told me to shove off and so I walked awhile and layed down somewhere else and slept!

My main advice for you is that if you are going to sleep outside just be smart what spot you pick. Avoid beaches, as they are often patroled at night and also rats can be an issue, not to to mention the tide (yeah, not the most pleasant way to wake up...).

Hello Rick,

I have slept outside in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Germany, Austria, Spain, France, Greece, India, Thailand, Australia and Yugoslavia. But, that was way back in the 1960's.

In Sweden there were many small log barns that were conveniently located everywhere and all one really needed to do was simply walk in and hit the hay for a goodnight's sleep.

If you have a tent and a good sleeping bag with you then why not just camp out? Most of Sweden is heavily forested so you should not have any problem finding a good spot. The same goes for Finland and Norway.

haha this summer I met up with a bunch of people(about 20) in Cap D'Ail France(1 km from Monaco and 15km from Nice and Italy), and we all had rooms that were close(1 block away) but we decided that we didn't want to go back to our rooms, so we got out a bunch of blankets and vodka and slept on this grassy cliff thing, haha, it was really fun. There were Americans, Canadians, Finnish, Swedish, Italian, British, Spanish, Slovakian, Japanese, and French people with us! Lots and lots of fun! We did that twice.
