Hi me and my friends are currently planning our trip to Europe and we<re getting as much info as we can. One thing we realized while looking at hostels emplacement is that nobody never talks about bathroom and showers in those hostels. How do they work? I mean, are they communal bathroom or private bathroom, shower stales or communal shower? It's something we were wondering about because there are no hostel website we saw that said something about bathrooms in their specifications!
It will vary from hostel to hostel. Some hostels have a private bathroom/shower in the dorm room. Others have them down the hall. In these, there will usually be a room for men and a room for women and they contain toilets and showers. Most hostels have seperate shower stalls (I stayed at one that was communal).
If you worried about certain hostels, check out a site like hostelz.com or hostelworld.com that have reviews. They usually will mention the bathroom setup.
I have never stayed in a hostel that has had a private bathroom in my room and every time they have been fine. Just remember to bring shower shoes... (sorry the thought of all those dirty travelling feet freaks me out no matter how clean the washrooms are) But all in all the washrooms fine... things work, generally clean. And if you look hard enough on the web or ask around on TP you will for sure get someones opinion on the washrooms in pretty much any hostel around a large chunk of the world.

If you have arranged a private room, then you MIGHT get your own washroom, I have never had my own in a hostel, even about 1/2 of B&Bs have shared bathrooms.
Bath rooms fiffer for sure...
Linen House Hostel in Belfast, wash room was small, dirty, and was about 40 people had to share...
Bulldog Hostel in Amsterdam, was clean, new, big, and there were 2 of them in a dorm room for 12 people
So that one end of the spectrum to the other...email the hostel and askthem about their washroom facilities!
Great! Thanks everyone for responding! I'm not concerned about the washroom facilities it's just that hostel websites rarely talk about them and i was getting curious! Thanks for the shower shoes tip...I'll keep that in mind!
