Sorry it took me so long to jump on this post, But i regret to say, that I met so many Australians when I was Europe, I had lodging every night I was in OZ. Although, I did use the services of a bunch of hostels in the city core, Internet use, phones, brekfast, socializing that kinda thing, and did not have a problem at any. Here is a TP link to a whole whack of hostels in Sydney, you should be able to find everyting your looking for there.

TP's Sydney Hostel List

Enjoy Sydney, Its pretty wicked there!!! B)

Hey, I'm from Sydney (so i wouldnt have stayed in any of them before) but there is YHA (Youth Hostel Australia i think it is?) and there is one located right in the centre of everything (near Central Station/Surry Hills. It looks pretty darn cool, and i'm YHA is found throughout australia...

But if you want something that is in a great location, thats one of them. (Central Station is the closest train station is about a 1 minute walk away...) :P

But it all depends where you want to go in Sydney... Hope that helps!

Surfside in Cogee Bay was the best one I stayed at. Right on the beach and very chilled. Didn't enjoy the ones in Kings Cross too much
