Unhappy

Seriously, how the hell do these things work? I've spent weeks trying to figure this stuff out..but it's all made for ppl who have half a clue.

They're set up like dorms...well that's great, seeing as how I've never (and will never) live in a dorm. Would it be rude to be in a 4 bed dorm with 3 ppl travelling together? and what the hell is this 36 bed dorm thing? some sort of warehouse?? Do hostel clerks bite? for the love of god, please tell me they speak English, or at least most do. HELP!!

Hey arbiter! I haven't stayed in as many hostels in Europe as most of these other guys on here have, but I've stayed in a few and never had any problems. I worry more about my stuff getting stolen personally. In my experience, hostel clerks spoke enough English that you could communicate with them. If not, someone there (guest, whomever) should be able to! In terms of numbers, I have been in a hostel room before where there were 6 people I was traveling with, and 2 other people we didn't know. So you shouldn't worry about traveling with 3 in a room of 4. It's not really a big deal; let's face it; people in hostels are 1) trying to save money, 2) usually younger, and 3) know what goes along with staying in one, ie noise, people coming and going, etc. I'm not saying be obnoxious and annoy whomever you're in the room with, but don't worry too much because people having different agendas goes along with the territory. In my experience, most people are very friendly, and you can talk to them and get to know them, and leave it at that, or, especially if you're both alone, end up hanging out with them for a day or more! And in terms of large rooms, like 20 people or more, it makes it almost easier I think; easier in the sense that it's not really ackward (like it could be with only a few people). But harder in the sense if you are looking to get to know people possibly. I don't know if this helps but don't worry! It'll be great! hehe
