Worst Hostel Experiences Ever
Sorry if something similar has already been done, I did a search but couldn't find anything.
So basically, what are peoples worst (or most hilarious) hostel stories ever?
So things to do with the state of the accomodation, the staff or the people you stayed with and the strange/funny/scary things they did!
I've never stayed in a hostel (yet) myself, so I'd like to prepare myself for the worst. And the stories will just be interesting to read!

This is a fun thread idea, I know everyone has "a story". I've been fortunate in my hostel stays, myself. I've picked places with great reviews and have had pretty good experiences. My only shit time was on my first solo trip... I literally landed in Frankfurt, Germany after flying all night. Landed at 7am, pretty apprehensive, but hop on the HB to Koln and head to the hostel I booked. Get there turns out they double booked and I had no reservation cos they were completely booked up. I was effing exhausted and jet lagged and just wanted to crash out for a few hours before I explored, but they were good about calling another hostel (on the other side of Koln... FML) and getting me 2 nights there.. it worked out because the hostel I ended up at turned out to be on the fun side of Koln.
Everywhere else I stayed was not sketchy and pretty awesome! Interested to hear other tpunk stories though!

In a hostel in Thailand a guy came back at 4am drunk with a prostitute and had sex with her in the dorm. It was actually pretty funny at the time.
I've also been in a dorm with a guy who shouted in his sleep.

See, everything happens for a reason (or so I like to think anyway!)

My worst experience was a hostel in Budapest. I decided to book a hostel near one of the main train stations thinking it would be convenient. It turns out the train station was in a dodgy area of town. Add to that, the directions they gave to the hostel were horrendous. It took me 45 minutes to find the hostel, despite it only being 5 mins away from the train station. Got to the hostel and was greeted by this dodge door man. Finally made it up to the third floor where the hostel was located. It turns out it was an apartment with a whole bunch of beds crammed in every nook and cranny. There was no reception, just this lady that took my money and gave me a key. There was only one other person staying in the "hostel" and the place was just plain dirty and old. Luckily they had wifi and I spent the night booking the next hostel. I slept in my clothes and was out of there at the crack of dawn the next morning.

This is a Hilarious story... at least now it is.
I was staying at a hostel in Dublin and the floor shared 1 toilet. Well nature called and low and behold when I opened the door to leave there are about 5-7 people standing in line (there was nobody around at first). Well I am sure by the look of sheer terror on my face that things were not going to go well. I quickly exited the scene. About 5-10 minutes later a guy staying in my room walked in complained of how aweful it smelled outside. Oh the ribbing I get from my wife about this! I laugh now, but I was very meek at the time!

Funny and embarrasing but I expect similar situations occur quite often if you've got that many people sharing one toilet! I very much doubt you're the only one to have gone through this!

Last summer I was in Amsterdam. I can't remember the name of that shithole. The room was dirty and there were holes in the curtains. The television did not work. The shower was so dirty that we didn't use it. Finally the breakfast was nothing and the second day we want to the bakery accross the street.
