Cool

Place to stay in ALicante (which is great in itself if you need a break to chill on the beach for a couple days) is called Hostal Residencia (canīt remember which) Milagrosa. For 15 euros a night (itīs a flat rate, depending on per person, and how many nights. The owner, this nice little old lady, will start off wicked high at first, make sure to bardter her down. If there are more than one or two of you, I know you can get her down to about 12, but this was in the last weekend of may, so during high season it might be a bit more), I got a room with balcony, shared kitchen, sparkling bathrooms, and this ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE rooftop garden terrace, which looks up to the townīs infamous hilltop castle. Itīs an incredible place to watch the sun rise (coming up behind the castle), and set(off into the mountains). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!! And only like a 5 min walk to the local beach (or a 15 min bus ride to the much, much nicer (read, cleaner, less packed, and serenly chill) beach called playa san juan), and close to the main market etc. I loved this place, and am definitely going back!!! PS- I have alsoo been to other great cities, starting in Madrid (ok, didnīt love it so much, but great museums), then Santo Domingo de Silo (reached by bus from burgos, absolutely necessary if you have time; it literally is a town of about 300 people, but has the most amazing monastery there. The monks chant vespers and morning mass, and the result, in their cold, dark, small stone catherdral is absolutely ethereal. hostal cruces is brand new, and affordable, with in room bathrooms, about 18/night), and then salamanca (hostal las vegas, another beaut. and also, loved the city because it was very young and chic, having the university there, plus la catedral is AMAZING.), then cordoba, granada, alicante and finally, where Iīll be spenidng a month taking classes, valencia. Then itīs up north somewhere to la pais vasco. So there ya go!! My trip for the past 2.5 wks. Iīll keep yaīll updated, whether you like it or not!!!

cheers,
jess.

Sherpīs in tha house :P !

Thanks for the update! Looks like youīve been covering a lot of gound!
Many people come to Travel PUNK in search of accommodations in Alicante, Spain through search engines like Google and Yahoo.
This post is quite valuable to those going to this quaint and happening beach town on the Mediterranean and will be looking for affordable accommodations.
The rooftop terrace, the view of the sunrise over the infamous hilltop castle (See the Alicante page), balcony, nice bathroom, all for as low as $12(if your bargaining skills are sharp)! OUTSTANDING!
Take note, folks, you just might end up there!

As Sherp said, if you need to take a break for a couple of days, Alicante is a great place to decompress. A friend of mine suggested that to me, 3 years ago, and Iīm still thanking him!
I screwed up and didnīt make it out to Salamanca (voted last year as "a" or "the European Cultural City of the Year"). Heard it was fun and and beautiful.

īpreciate the tips and update, Sherp ! Have fun in Valencia and on the rest of your travels B) !
