Hi all, looking for some solid info. from Tpunks that have been to Oktoberfest. Mainly, where to stay. I've searched a few sites, including tpunk, and am not having any luck finding space.

Recommend any places? Alternatives to hostels? Campgrounds? Maybe a town nearby that we could bike from, or take the bus?

Maybe you could try some urban camping or camp out discreetly in the train station if its open 24 hrs? If you wanna take a shower, Wombat's basically has no security or locked doors (besides the actual rooms) and you can walk in and go to the third floor shower. When I was there it was unlocked and I'm sure with the high volume of people it would not be hard to just go in after someone is done without them closing the door and everyone would be none the wiser. But yeah if you wanna do some urban camping you gotta be hidden and discreet cuz Germans love to call the police.

I think the Munich HBF is 24hr (if it isn't then it must be 22 hours or so...they have departures and arrivals at ridiculous hours).

Frankfurt and Berlin have Red Cross rooms at the train station (Munich may as well). Otherwise, try staying out of town or even out of country (Salzburg is pretty close)

I came across the same problem when I went to Oktoberfest.

We ended up sleeping in a park right in the middle of the city. The only problem we came across was the rain We stored all of our stuff in lockers at the train station and just took our sleeping bags to the park.

They are pretty strict about not letting people sleep at the train stations during the festival - at least when I was there. I think there would be too many people sleeping there if they didn't control it.

My friends who didn't want to sleep in the park with us just hopped on a train and took it 3 hours out, then got back on another one and took it back in. They got about 6 hours of sleep that way!

cool, thanks everyone.I'll def. remember wombats for the shower. I'm still looking into some camping options.

Mushroom, do you remember the name of the park? And how long ago was it that you went. It seems like every visit I take overseas (anywhere) I find less fewer parks that are hassle free sleep zones.
