Italy?
My father and I will be going to Italy in early Nov this year. Its my first time ever leaving the country. Its a surprise 50th bday gift to bring my father with me. He knows I am going already. My concern is how and where the two of us can lodge for the first two weeks of our trip in Rome and Florence? I doubt he can stay in Hostels with me as he is far from the normal adge that allows students. Does anyone know of hotels, or other means of lodgeing we could use for really cheap prices in these two cities?

First, Welcome to Tpunk!
It is a common misconception that hostels are restricted to young people (well some are but not most). Also, it is increasingly common to have private rooms for two people at hostels, so you may want to keep that in mind.
Florence has its share of BnBs as does Rome (in Rome they tend to be a bit more). I stayed at Archi Rossi Ostello in Florence and it was pretty decent. Pop-Inn Hostel in Rome which was very meh...
Those are two great cities to start in! I recommend getting to Florence first, even if you are flying into Rome to help ease yourself into the trip. If you have any questions just ask, many punks have been to Italy.

I second the tip that hostels are open to all ages, though you might want to assess them based on both your needs - does your dad want to stay at a place that advertises itself as "PARTY CENTRAL" - for that matter, do you? We are in our 30s, with four young kids (aged 4 - 11) and often stay in hostels, where we encounter people of all ages. If you're looking for someplace social, hostels are definitely the best option, but if something a bit quieter is preferable, then small guesthouses or family run hotels and b&bs are a great option. Any time you can meet locals, you'll have a really outstanding experience.
There's a comprehensive list of options at the Travelpunk hostel booking site, so be sure to check that out, another suggestion I have for Rome is the Hotel Santa Maura II. It is perhaps a little more expensive, probably around 60 Euro for a double room, but the rooms were comfy, the staff were friendly and the breakfast was substantial! About 2 km walk from the nearest metro station, but there was a bus stop about 30 m from the hotel (and a panini shop beside it, which was handy!)
Haven't been to Florence myself, so can't help you out there I'm afraid. Have a great time, and kudos for your creative, generous and once-in-a-lifetime birthday present to your dad!

Thank You!
I appretiate your assistance and suggestions. I have found a well reviewed Hostel known as "Yellow Hostel" in Rome. Its just over 300 US dollars for 5 nights stay. It also has a nice list of amennities and activities available for its residence. I still need to do a search for Florence but now that I see the age restriction is not as tight as I thought, it should be easier to find a place for the two of us there as well.
This website rocks by the way!
