This may be the dumbest of dumb...but should I bring an alarm clock or use a watch alarm or something when I am staying in hostels?

I imagine everyone has certain times to catch trains so it must be standard and I'm assuming it isn't considered rude to set an alarm on your watch

Also is there a specific checkout time for hostels?

For example in Berlin the day I leave I wanted to take the Third Reich Tour which goes from 10 am to 2 pm but need a place to stash my pack, so could I leave it in my hostel locker and come grab it from 2-3 or do I have to remove everything by a certain time?

I'm a VIRG backpacker leaving next week so I may have some pretty basic questions...

Thanks to anyone who replies...

You should be alright with an alarm, as long as it doesn't absolutely blast away. A watch alarm should be okay. If you have to get up at an absolutely ungodly hour, you might want to let your dorm mates know so they can sleep with their pillows on their heads or something.

Also, you should have no trouble leaving your pack in the hostel's luggage room after check out, but be sure to ask right away, just in case they have peculiar rules. You might have to drop it by the train station first, but I've never heard of a place where you couldn't leave your bag.

Good luck, have a great trip, and welcome to Travelpunk!

also for extra important/ ungodly hours some hostels have a wake up service.
the one i lived in in scotland would sent the night person to wake u up at whatever time as long as it was before 7 am.
Also please if u have to get up early:
warn your roomies
do your packing the night before
DON'T rustle plastic bags for and hour in the morning.
Make sure your alarm/ reminder wont go off if your not in the room to turn it off.

and happy travelling.

Best thing to do, Bring your mobile phone and sleep with it under your pillow and set the tune to some full on fanfare music, when that shit hits 8 am you are awake! it goes from slumber to up and ready in a heartbeat, a very heavy heartbeat!!! And with it under your pillow then the other people wont hear it as much so everyone is happy!

ahh florencia even worse this one hostel this fuckin guy came in drunk and started ruffling through 3 bags of chips at 5 am, those chip bags are so loud and then you could just hear him in his bed crunching away on those things.....I was ready to shove it up his ass

I use my mobile phone as an alarm... I keep it under my pillow, as TheWills suggested, but additionally, I set it to vibrate. That jolt wakes me right up!

Everyone understands when you have to get up early to catch a train or something, we all have to do that.

In Florence we had these one jerks that had to get up at 3 am and they took a good hour packing their bags to leave. They were jerks, I wanted to kill them.

Then in other hostels, people would set their alarms, and then they wouldnt be there to turn them off. I just wanted to throw them out the window.

Also, if your alarm goes off, GET UP!! DONT HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON!! Hate those people...

i was living in a hostel for a bit while i was working. just switch off the alarm right away when it goes off.

the drunken chips thing is funny. i remember when i was in madrid, the hostel i stayed at had its own little fridge in every room. i got 2 cheeseburgers from burger king and stuck them in the fridge. i, of course, got really smashed that night and woke up with a half eaten cheeseburger in my bed, and bread crumbs all inside it.

Something that wakes me up in a bad mood is when I can hear or sense someone popping a can! I don't know why but if i'm in a bed sleeping and I hear that the floors gravity increases by alot! I hate waking up mid air between the bed and floor. :greenguy:

Why don't you use a mental alarm clock?
