Beaches in Italy

Can someone out there help me - I'm going to Italy this summer (in July aka high season) and I'm having difficulty finding solid info regarding good beaches (you know, pretty white sand, lots of space, lots of sun) I'm only traveling in the environs of Rome, Florence and Venice, so I need info about beaches in the North.

For that matter, are there any cheap places to stay in beach-towns (all I'm finding are resorts - way too much for me)

I haven´t been to Italy, So I can´t give you any first hand info, but these are a couple of links that I think are useful.

Arcaini´s- might find something here. If not, maybe it will lead you in the right direction with all of his links.

And, I know you said North Italy, but since Naples is close to Rome, you might find some good travel off the beaten path at http://www.costadiamalfi.it

I suggest you to search for:

Rimini and riviera Romagnola for the Mare Adriatico or Ostia (near Rome) , Sperlonga for the Mare Tirreno
It depends on what do you want ? if you like disco and beach sports I suggest you to search for "Riviera Romagnola" e Mar Adriatico while if you prefer wonderful sea and beatiful place I suggest the Mare Tirreno placese

Well, if you want to hang out on the water in the north of Italy, go to the Cinque Terre. The water, towns, and hiking are all incredible, and I can't recommend iit enough.
