So quick queston. I have reservations in London from the 16th to the 21st of this month but am still unsure if we are going to stay at that hostel all 5 nights. I have already paid my 10% down payment, but what happens if on arrival, I decide that I only want to stay 4 or 5 nights. Is it possible to only pay for 3 nights even though I have reservations for 5 and just eat that 10% for two nights? Also, if I do so and only pay for three nights, can I pay for the final two the day of if I do decide to stay the entire 5 day duration. Thanks.

Sorry, I could'nt find the edit option. What I meant was, if I decide to stay only 3 or 4 days. Thanks again.

Generally yes. You can say is all I have is the money to pay for X nights and I will go to the ATM tomorrow and bring you the rest. Then you come back and say that you decided to leave earlier. Most are ok with that.

Ok, I guess that makes sense. What can they do if you say that you don't have the money at the time? I just wanted to make sure that if I wasn't willing to pay for the entire duration of the reservation, that they wouldn't turn me away or charge me an extra fee. Again, thanks for the reply.

You can also ask if you can pay daily. We did that a couple of times. Some don't make you pay until you check out (like they hold your passport) so there's another option.

Each of the three I stayed in didn't have an issue with payment. So long as I didn't check out I never lost my spot there. I think I had to pay the big one every morning, then one was whenever I got around to it, and the last was "Hey, don't I owe you some money?" :D

A couple of hostels I stayed in didn't charge me til the end, one of which I had to spend 5 minutes looking for one of the owners, then persuade them I hadn't already paid!

booking hostels online usually comes with the stipulation that if u dont show up your charged for the first night and non of the rest. of course each hostel will vary to what they do.
my guess is that leaving early isnt a problem. your 10% will just go towards your total cost for the nights your there. just like at a typically hotel if u check out early u dont get charged. the only exception i might see is some shady little hostel (you know those kind of places u get a weird feeling about as soon as you walk in) or a place during a really slow time with a douche bag manager that represents everything backpacking is not.
