Choosing travel health insurance

I was planning on going with the credit card's (Visa) coverage, which has me covered for free with Assist Card. But someone told me that some countries won't let you in unless you have a certain type of insurance ( that covers X amount of money). Do you guys know anything about this?

I'm hitting Spain, France, Italy, Austria, the Czech Rep and Ireland. Any idea?

I came into Europe thru Ireland and they didn't ask me anything about insurance (not that I had any to tell them about lol). All they wanted was my passport and wanted to know where I was staying (fake address bc I had no clue what the real address was lol).

I'm pretty sure europe is ok about that kind of thing. Travel insurance is pretty cheap these days, would you not be happy having just that little bit more cover?!

I've never heard about any country asking about having traveler or health insurance when entering, unless you were maybe applying for a visa for an extended stay. At the most, when entering customs may ask for proof of funds for the duration of the trip (usually a major credit card is fine).
