I admit it's always made me a little nervous to leave stuff on the beach, but I do anyways. I love to swim, I love beaches, so I wouldn't let that ruin it for me. If nothing else, just bring el cheapo stuff with you, so if it does get stolen its not a problem. I've never had a problem with anyone touching my stuff. There's usually so many people around, no one would bother. I also keep an eye out from the water!!
Forgot to mention: I usually take a towel, sunglasses (I never buy expensive ones and they're usually funky so no one would want to steal them anyhow
), and sunblock. I sometimes carry it in a beach bag. Oh and beer. We usually bring beer.
