I just caught wind of this post and I feel like starting. I know I'm a little late but hey, I still need to lose about 30 pounds. I'm trekking Europe this summer and want to be better fit. I'll keep everyone posted. Keep the motivation up!
I'm off to the store,
Mike

i don't own a scale, so i don't know how much i've lost or even how much i weigh, i can just tell i'm out of shape and that i want to tighten up my stomach. yeah, so i started the week of christmas. i ran and weight trained about twice a week the last two weeks in december but still ate terribly. i'm now into my second week of january and working out three times a week. i'm eating all heathly (i.e. fresh spinach, black beans, olive spread, whole wheat tortillas, avacados, tomatos, bananas, apples sauce, pineapple...anything fresh, i want to make every calorie count. i even cut pastries at work completly out (i work at starbucks) and now drink a iced double tall soy latte.) i run about a mile and then weight train for about 15-20 mintues. i also do 120 crunches in 40 rep intervals. it's still really hard to run because my lungs are still not up to par since i quit smoking 16 months ago, but i can tell it's getting easier week to week. soon i'll be able to add on a little distance. my motivation is to hike this summer without feeling like i want to die. every summer i do a big hiking trip with my family and while i'm hiking the hardest peak i always swear up and down that i'm going to get in better shape and never do. shit...not this year. i have my mind set. hey, good luck to everyone...actually luck has nothing to do with it...work your asses off guys and make it a reality!

I don't have a scales ether but me jeans are a bit looser, I'm cooking more of my food from scratch and I gave up smoking (cigs and MJ) so I can't sit still. Drinking loads of water too.

I haven't been doing to well either weight wise. But I still work out 2-3 times a week for 40-90 mins. Not so much these past two weeks though...my grandmom is in the hospital still (since Jan 1st) so all free time is either there or sleeping.

Finally getting our gym memberships this week, so I'll be swimming Tues/Thursday and working out 1-2 other days (days Jake can make it). I'm walking my ass off now that I'm in school - I didn't get a permit, so it's about a 15 minute walk to class, then each of my classes is in a separate building and two are on the third floors (I NEVER take the elevator - not even last year when my classes were on the 5th floor). So, all of this is helping. Foodwise - so so. Haven't joined any program yet. We'll eat out a lot less when we're on our own too - we used to ALWAYS cook our meals, now we out A LOT. Way too much. Alcohol consumption - still shitty. Hopefully I'll cut that down when we move out... One vice down, more to go.

You know, I think one of the diet clubs, like weightwatchers, should start using "stones" as their official unit of measure.
First off, it just makes you sound worse off to hear your weight in terms of stone, regardless of the number. It just conjures up bad images in your mind of a pile of big boulders..wow! That would really encourage people to get of their asses.
Then, after you lose a 15 pounds (which is a lot) you can say, I lost a stone! That would be rather gratifying - thinking of removing a whole boulder from your body.

Hello all, Just noticed this thread, and by chance I also started working out again in the end of December. I cant say if Ive lost weight or not cause I dont keep track of it. But I can say that i have more energy in the day, feel more motivated and just in general feel better about myself. And to me, thats what really matters. Guys, you could have a flabby stomach or washboard abs, in the end, its confidence that pulls in the ladies.
Feelin good is what realy matters.

I lost a couple of pounds in the last week... probably mostly from stress, maybe from getting back to the gym on a regular basis. Yay.

Hey! I know no one has posted on this topic for a while but i was wondering if anyone has any tips for losing 15lbs in about a month. Im leaving for europe in september and i'd like to be a little lighter, i have been excerising more (like swimming, speed walking and wat not) but it seems that whenever im on a crappy shift (aka Night Shift ) i eat like total crap, normally i eat healthy though, also if anyone has tips on how to lose it around your stomach i'd be eternally grateful its driving me nuts lol

You can't really target fat loss - it tends to burn evenly all over the body, and last (for most people) from the tummy and the face. Sucks, don't it? I recommend brown-bagging it for those late shifts at work. I've weaned myself off of most junk food for a while and it feels pretty good, even though it requires a bit more effort.

haha i hate that i wish that it would go from my stomach to my ass lol i could use some help in that department. I do brown bag it for the most part and i usually only pack fruit but its what i eat when im starving at 7:30 (when i get home) and the crap i eat at 6. Its like a vicious circle, *sighs*

I love how this topic gets resurrected every once in a while, and every time I'm all set to get back on the wagon!
Summer's a good time to lose weight, cause there's good fruit in season (I guess it depends where you're from), and brown bagging it is a great idea. That's what I do for lunch, but in the evening I snack too much! Just try and think of your trip being your goal. Also, exercise can get you in great shape for backpacking, and who knows, maybe get you the ass you want! They say 2 pounds is a healthy weight loss/week, so make a smaller goal and who knows what will happen.

Dumping my car and biking to work (with the aid of the train for about 40 miles in between) has helped me start shaving some gut off again. I get in about 14 miles a day, on top of how much I ride on the weekends to get around. If I weren't drinking so much beer all the time, I'm sure I'd be in much better shape.
