Just wanted to let you know that Lithuania recently changed the rules and you MUST show proof of insurance when arriving here (at least by plane). I know every t-punker dreams of travelling to Lithuania, would hate to see you turned away at the gates!

We did see a guy prevented from entering last time we flew in, in March. Don't know if other countries are tightening their rules also, but I guess this serves as a reminder to check about entry requirements before you go!

Roger that. Thanks for the heads up man! Here is another tip that I picked up along the way that helps too:

Does XYZ country require "sufficient funds"?

Tip: Always carry a credit card. That will usually work.

Need proof of onward travel in order to enter?

Tip: Use above said credit card to buy a refundable ticket and refund it once in country in order to retain flexibility.

Happy Trails!

Thanks for the heads up! I actually did want to head to Lithuania. Do you know what they accept as proof?

If you have medical insurance (provincial, national or private) you probably have some kind of id card, that should be fine, and you'll need the card anyway if you need medical care. If you don't have insurance at home you should definitely get some for the trip - you really don't want to end up with medical bills on top of your trip expenses! Then you will have some kind of documents, and those should work too. Lithuania and some other former Soviet bloc countries still have incredible bureaucracies and require docs with all the appropriate stamps and notarizations, so if you have any official looking docs they should pass muster. But a handwritten note won't cut it!

Let me know if you have any Lithuania specific/Baltic region questions. I love this place.
