My friend's husband had to do it for medical reasons. She did it with him to make it easier and said after awhile, you just get used to it and it didn't even bother her. Good luck!

That's funny, because I recently bought a whole bag of powdered gluten - just out of curiosity. You can mix it with a liquid and it becomes this reaaal gooey, chewy stuff. I kinda like it, actually.

Hey MolsonGirl...directly from my aunt's reply to my e-mail:

"I'm happy to help you with your celiac friend. I shop at glutenfreepantry.com as well as glutino.com. Glutenfree pantry was recently purchased by Glutino but you can still access their sites individually. Glutino is based in Canada! Another very helpful site is the Celiac Sprue Association which I am a member of and extremely informative with many links - their address is www.csaceliacs.org. There is also celiac.com. CSA is probably the most reliable for information. Most of these sites should also be able to give you names and addresses of actual stores that carry gluten-free products as well as restaurants that offer gluten-free menus. You can also order a Product Listing book from CSA which is extremely helpful in shopping in a regular grocery store and also includes a listing of ingredients that are appropriate and not appropriate. Also, there is a new labeling regulation here in the States (and possibly Canada as well) that requirs manufacturers to state if there product is gluten free or at the very least contains wheat or if wheat is a by-product of their manufacturing.

Hope this helps. If your friend is a newly diagnosed celiac, tell them it gets less overwhelming as time goes on."

Hope this helps!

X thanks so much for your help, and please pass the thanks on to your aunt. I will definetly check out all those sites...

we have a Whole foods around the corner but it's very very expensive so I'm trying to work it out through my normal store (except bread and other hard to find items)

But thanks again.. that's really great of you!

Do a google search for a "health food" store or "organic food" store near you. We had one we always shopped at in our old hometown and moving to Chicago was slightly daunting as it seemed our choice would be Whole Foods, which as you expressed is expensive. We found a whole bunch of alternatives. Not sure if Trader Joes is in Canada, but they have some great, inexpensive products.
