Default Drugs drugs drugs...

Hey again to all!
I'm going to Ireland in May for eight months and am both thrilled and terrified. One thing I can't seem to find an answer on is the whole perscription drugs thing. Do I need to get a doctor over there and if so how do I go about getting one? How can I find out what drugs are used in the country (as some of mine aren't used in Canada but I've been given them for "different reasons"...meaning I'm cheating)? Can you mail drugs into the country from Canada? Endless questioins I tried the Irish embassy but alas, even they don't know.
Help!
Thanks,
Kelly

You will need to have a doctor to get prescription meds. They'd all be in the phone book www.goldenpages.ie but it's best to ask the locals who to go to.

This website should help http://www.irishhealth.com/

I think if you just bring your original prescription bottles the local doctor will probably give you a prescription without much question. Definitely bring the bottle though because the brand names can vary from country to country and the bottles usually have the generic name printed on them (and your specific dose which you might not know off the top of your head).

Yea it's not so much a problem to bring 8 months worth of meds but my mum's insurance will only cover three months at a time...tricky.

You should probably try and bring as much of the meds you need with you (if possible) I'd say they'll be allot cheaper in the US than here in Ireland. It may be worth seeing if you qualify for a medical grant seeing as you'll be here for a while. It's a long shot but you never know, we have all sorts of grants for all sorts of things.
