How do you protect yourself from Bedbugs?
How do you all protect yourselves from those nasty buggers?
It sounds like its more of a problem than i thought it was and not necesserily only found in run down hostels!
When on a long trip what do you do?

To Avoid bed bugs:
avoid wooden beds
avoid the walls
check the folds of your mattress carefully
if you see one, that means there are potentially hundreds

I agree with Jason^^^ When you get your bed, pull the sheet along the seems of the mattress and check for black spots. If they are there, don't sleep there. If the bed is against a wall with wallpaper, check the seems of the wallpaper as they also like to hang out there. If you can. Use a sleep sheet - A twin sheet sewn together like a sleeping bag. Some Hostels won't allow them. Which is why you should also wash that baby a LOT!!!
Other than that cross your fingers, and don't slip up with the mattress check. The first time you don't look, you will end up miserable for weeks.
Cheers,
Marc

Take pictures off walls if you can... otherwise I've never really found I could avoid them... just deal with them

Also don't throw your bag or your clothes on your bunk before you are sure it is safe. I have seen a lot of folks throw their bag on their bed to "claim" there spot. Easy for the bedbugs to jump right on your stuff and infest your pack.
