...mostly prescription lol and im wondering how thats gonna work out with my travels. does ne one have ne experience with travelling with bulk amounts of meds in europe? or just travelling with serious health condition in general? My pills would be very expensive and difficult to access i think and not taking them is not an option.

I don't think you'll have any problem in Europe, provided you take the prescription for ALL your medicine, and keep everything in their original box/pack/bottle. It'll be a lot easier for them to check out, and if you have your prescriptions they really can't do anything about it. Also, to save you the hassle, take to the airplane only the medicine that you deffinitely have to take on the flight, nothing more.

really?? normally i put it in my carry on? i take a drug called nuerontin for a chronic pain condition called trigemenal nueralgia(TN)its a pretty extreme condition and if i lost my luggage i would need pills within four hours, missing pills makes me really sick and sudden withdrawl can cause seizures and psychotic withdrawl effects :confused: (eesshh i know lil extreme huh?!?)
im a lil worried at this stage bout leaving it in its packaging (for my 8 week trip i'll need approx. 80 sheets of pills)but gonna try get the chemist to do them in labelled plastic jars.
I had TN since i was 15 and am determined not to let it get in the way of anything, i have travelled before but not for as long or as independantly so just gotta be a lil careful.

yeah. Take your prescriptions along so that the customs people can see em. Have your doc write a few up for ya and scatter them among your luggage. Always keep your meds with ya. I go diving for more people's luggage in the cargo bins cause they put their medicine that they need in their checked luggage. DO NOT DO THAT. TAKE IT WITH YOU ON THE PLANE.

lol thanx i feel a lil relieved i think id be so damn tense not having them with me, im hoping to split them a lil when i get to europe and get my friend to carry sum as a back up

has ne ever had to try and get prescription meds while travelling ?

I can't speak from experience, but I've read that in most of europe, you just go directly to the pharmacy, talk with the pharmacist, and she'll give you whatever you need. That's the way it was in the middle east. (unlike here in the US, where you always have consult a doctor first, even if you know what you need).

Especially in western europe, I don't think you'd have any trouble getting whatever medication you need.

Europe doesnt really work like the Middle East. An Argentine TV crew tried to get prescription medicine at the pharmacy in Germany with a hidden camera, and when the answer was no, they would try to brive them and they tried it on SEVERAL pharmacies and it just didnt work. You need a doctor's note. The penalty for pharmacists is really high if they violate the law.

But I'm sure that your medical insurance can give you numbers to contact doctors overseas. My sis had to do this in Syria, and the Dr our medical insurance from Argentina recommended was great.

As Jake said, take your meds with you on the plane!! Mistakes happen and if your bag gets sent to Kenya instead of London - it's gonna suck. I'll be taking 400 malaria pills, a year worth of birth control, a year of contacts and a small bottle of cipro with me when I leave (I dont foresee any hazzle since everything thing is labeled and I kinda need them all).

As far as getting meds overseas that really depends on the area your in and how fast a doc could call up a prescription overseas. I talked to my obgyn and was taking about getting Norplant (which I found out doesnt exist anymore) instead of buying for a year of pills, she said I could probably stop into a store when I get to Costa Rica and pick it up for a lot less. So my plan is to take three packs with me and try to find places that sell them there, if not I'll have enough time for my mom to mail down a package to the post office for pick-up.
