I just saw a blurb about this group, the "International Association for
Medical Assistance to Travellers" (IAMAT) in the Philly Inquirer's Travel section. Seems like a pretty sweet little organization.
According to the website, "

Our aim is to advise travellers about health risks, the geographical distribution of diseases worldwide, immunization requirements for all countries, and to make competent medical care available to travellers by western-trained doctors who speak English besides their mother tongue.

The best part (for me and my ethno-centric American buddies) is that last statement "competent medical care available to travellers by western-trained doctors who speak English."
Seriously though, my uncle had major surgery that needed to be performed while he was in China 10 years ago when technology and globalization weren't quite what they are now and was totally freaked out because virtually no doctors in the hospital could explain things in English. Something like this coulda help.
