I thought the thread title might cause some 'head scratching'
Question 1. Do you guys think a key padlock or a combination padlock is best for a backpack ? Question 2. What do you do with your b/packs when you want to use a toilet cubicle ? (I'm guessing most b/packs are a bit too big to bring into cubicles). Cheers, IrishDude. :taz: |
well, i didn't have to use the bathroom with the pack on very often, but when i arrived at schipol airport, i just wore it into the stall. it was cramped, but it worked (i was squatting though).

Go for a combo lock, no key to worry about..
As for the bathroom, try never to leave your bag unattended, if your taking a leak, just leave the door open, but ifs the "big" business your do'n, I would cram it into the stall with ya, especially if its a publis place ie: Mcdonalds, train/bus station, or Airport...You will not have your pack everywhere you go, just make sure you bring alond a day pack. |
There's often a hook inside the stall to hang your pack on - or just use the top corner of the door.

Cheers guys !
I reckon I will go for the combo locks - no keys to lose ! |
I had a problem with my combo locks when I was I spain this year. It was only one of my combo locks that did this, but once I'd got my luggage off the plane, the combination on one of the locks had changed. I had to flick through it til it clicked open. Don't know how it happened, but it did. But, I think I'm still going to go for combo locks again. :torch:

that's strange, beady  !
For me..... A combo lock for sure(no keys!)! Email yourself the combo, for safe measure. And, write all three number on different parts of your backpack to remember the combination. For example: On the top of your pack, write the first number. On one of the shoulder straps, write the second number. On the bottom of the backpack, write the third unmber to the lock. No one will ever look specifically at these places. Even if they saw a number, they wouldn't know what it represents :torch: ! |
Combo locks all the way - i don't trust myself with keys. Imagine losing them and having to go at the lock with some cutters or something...then again i'm just as likely to forget the lock combo...hehehe
|
I know, I was slightly baffled by it too. It didn't happen again though.
Thats a good plan about writing the combos all over the place! |
i've got a serious problem with my bag... the main compartment has 4 zippers... so the only way to lock it is to lock it open... lol.. and i dont think that would work very well... oh well.. we will see how i lose eh?

Hi guys, am da 'newbie' just about to do the backpacker thing in Oz.
Oooh its this Sunday and im well excited and stressed ya know? (pre-prep stress-have I got enough clean underwear etc lol! :stoked: ) i was always wondering about locks and mostly security. Very safety concious and probably at bit over the top in planning BUT nobody is getting any of my stuff bwana! Anyhoo just a retort on that combo lock and key thing. Email yourself the combinations (try to disguise em in the email) but if you ever forget em  you can use the old 24 hour email to unlock and free your self! Or am i the only one who thinks he will forget his combo's?? |
