Money Belt -

I was thinking about buying a money belt to store my credit cards, passport, etc.

However, I have read mixed reports about using a money belt.
.........some say they are the best way to carry important items and others say they are a 'thief target ' - that you are better off spreading your money/documents in various pockets ?!

What do you think folks ?

get the money belt that you tuck in over your boxers/underwear but under your pants....with a shirt or jacket covering it'd be impossible for a thief to even see a bulge where the money belt is....so you have to expose yourself to public embarassment everytime you reach into your croch to get your passport or money out....Big fucking deal....

i HIGHLY recommend the eagle creek leg stash (but only if you'll be wearing pants the whole trip). i used it through germany in october (was wearing pants, two pair usually) and it was great... sometimes it can feel like it's slipping a little, but never enough to come off or to show from the bottom of your pants. it's great.

Sometimes its good, sometimes not...if you are wearing a t-shirt, the belt will be against your skin, and it can really start to stink from the sweat...

If your going to be wearing cargo pants or cargo shorts, here is a tip that I have done...well I have not done it, my wife did it for me...

Take your cargo pants/shorts turn them inside out, sew a pocket at the bottom of the leg, big enough to hold your passport and cash, make it seal will velcro for added security. you will not even know its there.

OR

Sew a pocket inside your pants right behind the pocket on the outside, keep you passport in there. there are a couple of ways to do it, and it was a trick my grandfather taught me from when he was a "budget trav'la" after the war

i personally had the waist money belt. I figured, they'd have to take my ass down before they got their hands on it. That also meant that I walked around with my Clint Eastwood squint, whenever I was by myself :greenguy: . Walk around with a big koolaid smile in a shady part of town and you're public target #1

How far did I go? Even when I had my own private rooms, if it only had a doorlock, I slept with my waist belt complete with passport, credit cards, and plane and Eurail tickets. I did this because I can sleep like a rock and not be awaken easily at times. Since hostel staffs had keys to everything, a devious staff member could slip in without me noticing it. Reaching...I know, but better safe than sorry.

Only if the room had a dead bolt or lock that couldn't be unlocked from the outside, and the windows locked, did I feel completely at ease in leaving all of my personal posessions out in the open while I slept .
