Hello everyone! I have never been to Europe but I am planning on taking my wife backpacking there this Spring. We land in London on April 2nd and we fly out of Paris on the 18th. We are both 27 and were thinking of staying in Hostels part of the time to save money. My questions for all you experts are:
1. Are couples allowed to stay in Hostels?
2. What citys would you recomend we see in the time we have?
3. What will the weather be like that time of year?
4. Being our first time backpacking, what are some "must brings'?

I would love any feedback you can give me....

Some hostels will not allow men and women stay in the same room, and some will....you will have to email ahead to be sure...you do not want to be left int he cold, as a couple you might wanna spend the extra money and get yourselves a private room...still a hell of alot cheaper than a hotel!

Cities to recommend??? this will depend on money, and how you are traveling..rail pass? rent a car? bus??

But here are my top 7 cities in Europe

Edinburgh, Scotland
Dublin, Ireland
London, England
Brugge, Belgium
Rome, Italy
Venis, Italy
Monaco City, Monaco

While you are trek'n, don't forget the small towns, you will find hospitality there more welcoming than the larger cities.

For you must brings, go through this section of the boards and see what others carry in their packs...
Packing Tips

A couple of things I would not forget utility knife ( swiss army type), my own fork/spoon, photo copies of all documents including travelers cheques.

Weather??? try this link here...Weather Network Should give you the averages for the April...

And on a final note

To the TravelPunk family!!!! Always nice to help out a fellow trav'la

We are planning to traveling by train, but whatever comes up, we are just going to wing it. We want to leave all of our options open. As for us the money isn't an issue it's the time. I think it's funner and more of an adventure to backpack than to go on a tour and stay in hotels etc. I just wish I had more time.
