I am leaving for a backpacking trip in Europe this May for 3 weeks. I have finalized my plans and I wanted to get some opinions about my plans from everyone.

May 4th.
Arrive in London. Going to Portsmouth to stay with friends for the night.

May 5th
Catch 8 a.m. ferry from Portsmouth to Caen. Arrive near Caen at 12:30 and catch a cab to Caen train station. Then I am taking a train from Caen to Bayeux at 13:30. Arrive in Bayeux @ 14:00. Somehow get out to the American Cemetary and Omaha Beach. Be back at Bayeux train station to catch train from Bayeux to Paris St. Lazare at 19:36. Arrive in Paris about 2 hours later.

May 6, 7, 8
Paris. Staying at 3 ducks. If it sucks, going to Aloha or Young and Happy instead. Eiffel Tower, Louve, all that crap. I will be taking a night train from Paris Est at 22:42 to Interlaken Ost on the 8th. One change at Liestal at 5:30. Arrive in Interlaken at 8:21.

May 9, 10, 11
Interlaken. Staying at Balmer's. If it sucks, going to Funny Farm. Going to jump off things I shouldn't like perfectly good planes and bridges with a rope tied to me. Relax the rest of the time and soak up the alps. I will be tired from Paris. Good recovery stage. Taking night train from Interlaken Ost at 23:30 on the 11th. Arrive in Munich around noon.

May 12, 13, 14
Munich. Staying at Euro Youth Hostel. Drink beer. See the sites. Maybe a daytrip to Dachau. Don't know if I want to see that. I need to read more about Munich before I go. Taking a night train from München Hbf at 23:04. Arriving at Berlin Zoologischer Garten at 7:19. Non stop train. (Thank you, Lord)

May 15, 16, 17
Berlin. The wall, Checkpoint charlie, the Gate. I like the Cold War stuff. Staying at the Circus. Taking night train from Berlin Zoologischer Garten at 21:39 on the 17th. One change at 6:00. Arrive Amsterdam Centraal at 9:38.

May 18, 19, 20
Amsterdam. Staying at Flying Pig Palace. Maybe DT. Heineken Brewery Tour!!!! Maybe get some coffee. Taking plane flight from Amsterdam to Heathrow on the 20th. This ticket was 40 euro!!! The ferry was 35 and took 9 hours. 5 euro = 8:45...

May 21, 22, 23
London. Don't know if I am going to stay with some family. If not, staying at the Piccadilly Hotel. Look Kids, Big Ben. Parliament.

May 24th.
Fly home....sniffle.

I got a Eurail Selectpass for 4 countries, 8 days of travel. Use maybe 5 of them. Backpack, daypack, etc...I have been reading about this for 2 years now so I think I am ready. The only reservation I have is at 3 Ducks my first night in Paris. That way my plans can shift..

Whatcha think?

I'd say you have a pretty detailed itinerary, and sounds like you know what you want to see over there. I think you are doing it right by spending 3 days in most of your stops. Gives you a chance to slow down, unpack your stuff, get to know the lay of the land, and feel like a local for awhile.

While in Amsterdam, it is just a short train ride to the "Bridge Too Far." I did it as a day trip from Amsterdam. Nice museum and cemetary there...plus it's cool to look at the bridge itself. So simple looking to be the focus of such a battle. I also enjoyed Delfft, even though I know it is a tad touristy.

Have a blast!
