Well, I just got an early Christmas present from my parents, the Columbia Sportswear Europacker. Anyone have any experience with this one? It looks great, and seems damn sturdy, but I also frankly wouldn't know one pack from the next, and I'm excited by the littlest thing about my trip. It seems roomy enough (my one "splurge" item on my trip is my laptop-- want to update my blog and e-mail home every few days) and about right for a guy my size.
I have looked at the packing lists here, and can mostly abide by them (although I will need SOME jeans, I'm just too comfortable in them)-- I wonder how much of the time backpackers end up STINKING. I like a good shower every day, and to have clean clothes, and recognize that I may go a day or two without a shower in some cases. Any little tricks to stay pretty clean? Come on, don't be shy, tell me about that time you covered your body in deodorant and went to dinner after three days of sleeping in Bolivian Guano fields.
