Hey kids....Ill admit that Im gonna be a tightass traveller when Im away, stretching the buck as far as possible. So I plan to wash my clothes in the hostel sink when I can.
How do you guys work it? Do you make a habit of washing your clothes at the end of every day? Then hanging them up in the dorm and hoping theyll be dry in the morning? Or have a few plastic bags and keep them there for a few days and then do some washing all at once?
Do peole hang their underwear round the dorm room? hehehe Gimme a clue guys!!

Are LAUNDROMATS a common thing or is the sink the most viable option? Whats the normal routine?

yeah pinion I definitely agree that its not a fashion show! Im a practical guy and will choose comfortability over fashion no qualms...Im just thinking that doin all the washing at once is harder as it means youve gotta find a place to hang ALL the stuff while it dries.
GoingGlobal - its seems its not too hard to come across a laundromat but its cheaper to use the sink

alot of the hostels out there offer washing machines, dryers may be another story.
hanging your clothes to dry on the end of your bunk/bed shouldn't be a problem. And as for boxers/underwear it shouldn't be a problem either, I mean everyone wears them, right?

I didn't pack a whole lot when I went to europe so I ended up having to do laundry every five days or so. Most hostels that I encountered had a washing machine and dryer. And If they didn't there was always a laundromat close by. My favourite laundromat was in liverpool. This place had a couple washers and dryers, computers with internet and it was also a bar....So it was a bar/laundromat/internet cafe all rolled into one. neat eh. As for washing clothes in the sink. I did that a few times (esp. with my underwear) and had no probs just hanging it on my bed poles waiting for it to dry. If you plan on hand washing a lot that you can buy a small foldup clothesline at a travel store.

UNderware and socks I hold and wash near the end of the week, jeans/Cargos do not need that much attention, unless you have been playing in mud or have a sweating problem, but you shirts will need to be washed for sure, the can sticnk up your pack pretty good if left un attended. If you let all you dirty cloths pile up in your bag, you will spend the better part of a day cleaning them, so if you have a couple dirty things, sure wash'm hang'm and wait 1/2 a day or so to re pack them.
MOst hostel have laundry machines, and will even wash your cloths for you, for a price...if you use the sink, its pretty much free, so using the sink is just a cost saving messure.

When i was in the midlands in england and doing all my washing by hand i noticed that the worn patches on my jeans would turn brown, no matter how much i washed them. lucky for me this appeared to be fashionable at the time (i saw brand new jeans in shops with brown mud marks down the front.)
Everything was clean, there was just a bit of brown on my jeans. I don't think i had any whites so i never really had any major problems.
Hint choose darker coloured / patterned clothes as it wont show as many stains.

Just in case of what?! LOL I cannot fathom what sort of event would necessitate a pair of drawers if you're already used to going without.
Unless you wanna parade around the hostel in yer panties. hahahaha!!!! Just kidding!
